Galway

The Place...

Galway... the Croí Cultúrtha na hÉireann or cultural heart of Ireland.  Picture winding lanes, salty air, ancient walls and traditional music. The largest settlement of the Gaeltacht, the Irish language still thrives here in the west. And although Galway is the fourth largest city in the country, it has retained much of its small town character and is home to many artists, writers, and musicians. In fact as a UNESCO Centre of Film, Galway is internationally recognised with the highest standard of excellence of the creative industries.

Galway has a bohemian flavor that is typical of the west of Ireland psyche : laid back, light hearted and ready with a smile.

Galwegians revel in enjoying themselves. Right in the middle of the Wild Atlantic Way, the city has an infectious up-tempo vibe that’s played out in a full calendar of festivals and events. From music and horseracing to literature and oysters – there's plenty to discover.

Playing...

The Galway Aldea operates from October through March during the quieter time of the year. There is plenty to do from cycling, to trekking to skating. If you're truly hearty, join the locals in a plunge from the Blackrock Diving tower - a seasonal tradition.

Explore the Christmas market in town or venture to Connemara, through the desolate yet beautiful Doo Lough and Delphi Valleys, where the landscape tumbles down to the dark waters of Killary Harbour, a stunning fjord framed by olive-coloured mountains.
